Agartala, October 4: A tree plantation and cleanliness drive was organised in Ward No. 31 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation on Sunday as part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan being held to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The programme began at the ward office premises with the planting of saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, with participants stressing the need for greater environmental awareness and civic responsibility.
The organisers said tree plantation was aimed at promoting greenery and contributing to a healthier environment, while the cleanliness campaign sought to encourage residents to take an active role in maintaining public spaces.
The plantation drive was followed by a cleanliness campaign at the nearby Kali Temple compound. Volunteers, local residents and party workers participated in the programme and cleaned the temple premises.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee joined the cleanliness drive and wielded a broom along with workers and residents.
Speaking at the programme, Bhattacharjee stressed the need to spread awareness about sanitation, cleanliness and environmental conservation.
“I extend heartfelt appreciation to all organisers and workers for their tireless efforts in keeping our surroundings clean. This campaign reflects our responsibility towards society and our commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment,” he said.
Ward 31 Corporator Anjana Das, Banamalipur Mandal president Arindam Choudhury and several BJP leaders and workers participated in the programme.
The organisers said the drive was intended to strengthen public participation in cleanliness and environmental protection activities and encourage people to adopt responsible civic practices.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being observed through various programmes, including tree plantation drives, health camps and social welfare initiatives.
Sunday’s programme in Ward 31 formed part of the grassroots activities being conducted under the campaign, bringing together local residents and party workers for community-oriented initiatives.
Participants called for sustained efforts to maintain cleanliness in public places and increase greenery in urban areas. They also emphasised that environmental conservation and sanitation required continued community participation beyond campaign-related programmes.
The organisers appealed to residents to keep their surroundings clean, protect public spaces and plant more trees as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and greener Agartala.
The programme concluded with participants reiterating the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining sanitation, protecting the environment and encouraging civic consciousness among residents.
