AGARTALA, March 3: As many as 28 voters from diverse political and social backgrounds joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday at the party’s state headquarters in Tripura, in what leaders described as a significant boost ahead of the upcoming TTAADC elections.

Welcoming the new entrants, BJP Tripura State General Secretary Bipin Debbarma said that the majority of those who joined were youth leaders who had severed ties with the Tipra Motha Party. “Among the new entrants, a total of 22 youth leaders have snapped ties with Tipra Motha and joined the BJP. All of them hail from the Kamalpur Assembly constituency,” he stated.

The development comes at a politically significant time, with parties intensifying organisational activities ahead of the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The induction of leaders from other political outfits is being seen as part of the BJP’s strategy to consolidate its base in tribal-dominated areas.

Apart from former Tipra Motha members, Brajagopal Debbarma, organising secretary of the Tipraland State Party (TSP), also joined the BJP on the day. His entry is viewed as a notable shift from smaller regional formations toward the ruling party.

Singer Gautam Debbarma also joined the BJP during the programme, further adding visibility to the event.

Party leaders expressed confidence that the new entrants would strengthen the BJP’s grassroots network and contribute to its outreach efforts in the run-up to the TTAADC polls.
