Tension briefly gripped the Pekuchhara area under Panisagar subdivision after a group allegedly made loudspeaker announcements for a Waz Mahfil—an Islamic religious gathering—without prior administrative permission in a predominantly Hindu locality. The situation, however, was swiftly brought under control following prompt intervention by the police and local administration.
According to reports, a Madrasa had earlier approached the administration seeking permission to organize a Waz Mahfil. In view of the prevailing sensitive communal atmosphere in the region, the authorities reportedly denied the request to maintain peace and order. Despite the denial, some members of the Madrasa allegedly proceeded to make public announcements using a vehicle bearing registration number TR05C0762 in the Hindu-majority area.
Local residents, noticing the unauthorized announcements, confronted the occupants of the vehicle and questioned them about conducting miking activities without official approval. This confrontation soon escalated into a heated argument between the two sides. The situation worsened when another vehicle, bearing registration number TR05G1705 and reportedly carrying around 10 to 15 people, arrived at the spot, further intensifying tensions.
Eyewitnesses claimed that during the altercation, certain remarks were allegedly made referring to the recent death of one Dipu Das, which further inflamed local sentiments. Amid heightened emotions, a mob reportedly vandalized both vehicles involved in the incident.
On receiving information, Panisagar police, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sushanta Debbarma, rushed to the scene. Through coordinated efforts by the police and administrative officials, the situation was brought under control without further escalation.
As a precautionary measure, four individuals involved in the unauthorized miking activity were taken to Panisagar Police Station for their safety and questioning. Authorities confirmed that the incident took place in Ward No. 4 of the Pekuchhara area under Panisagar subdivision. An investigation is underway, and officials have appealed to residents to maintain peace and communal harmony.
