Tension once again gripped politically sensitive Kailashahar on Monday as fresh clashes erupted over government contract-related disputes. The long-troubled region, which has been witnessing repeated altercations in recent months, saw another violent incident under the jurisdiction of Irani police station, leaving a local contractor severely injured.
The injured contractor has been identified as Mizanur Rahman Sagar. According to his account, he was at his worksite near the Irani Primary Health Centre when a group of miscreants suddenly attacked him without provocation. Sagar alleged that the assailants hit him on the head with force, causing deep injuries and leaving him collapsed on the ground in a pool of blood.
Medical sources at Unakoti District Hospital confirmed that the victim sustained serious head injuries and required eight stitches. Doctors are closely monitoring his condition following initial treatment.
The attack sparked panic among local residents, especially as Sagar claimed the incident occurred very close to the Irani police station. Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information, rescued the injured contractor, and shifted him to the district hospital.
In the aftermath of the assault, tension ran high across the locality. Fearing escalation, the district administration deployed additional police and paramilitary forces at key locations to prevent further disturbances. Officials stated that the situation is under strict surveillance and security presence will continue until normalcy is restored.
Police sources said a formal investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those involved. Preliminary efforts are already underway to trace the miscreants responsible for the violent assault.
Authorities have urged local residents to maintain peace as the probe continues.
