Development work at Maiganga Sukanta Higher Secondary School in Teliamura came to an abrupt halt following strong objections from local residents over alleged use of substandard construction materials. The work, which included the construction of a boundary wall and a cycle stand for students, was stopped after residents raised concerns about quality and demanded corruption-free execution, leading to a temporary deadlock at the school campus.

The project, being implemented under the supervision of the Teliamura School Inspector, was aimed at protecting government property and enhancing the safety and convenience of students. Sanctioned during the tenure of the present BJP government, the construction had been a long-pending demand of the local community since the CPI(M) regime. The start of the work had initially generated relief and optimism among parents and residents who had waited years for these basic facilities.

However, soon after construction began, complaints emerged regarding the alleged use of inferior bricks and cement, as well as improper construction methods. Locals feared that if the work continued in this manner, the boundary wall and cycle stand would lack durability and could pose serious safety risks to students. On Saturday morning, a group of residents assembled at the site and compelled the workers to stop construction. Further anger was sparked by allegations that the supervising engineer was frequently absent during the execution of the work.

Community members emphasized that educational institutions require strict supervision, transparency, and adherence to quality standards. They warned that negligence could not only lead to misuse of public funds but also endanger the lives of children.

The incident has also taken a political turn, with some residents alleging that opposition parties were spreading misinformation to obstruct development initiatives of the current government. Opposition leaders have rejected these claims.

Although the situation is presently calm, parents, locals, and school authorities have collectively demanded that the project resume only after proper inspection and assurance of quality, placing student safety above all else.
