Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing Chabimura tourism development project and directed officials to ensure its completion by October this year. The minister stated that once the work is completed, the upgraded tourist destination will be formally opened for visitors, marking a significant step in Tripura’s efforts to strengthen its tourism sector.

During the visit, Chowdhury reviewed the progress of various infrastructure and beautification works being carried out under the project. He stressed the importance of completing the development activities within the stipulated timeline while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

Describing Chabimura as one of Tripura’s most treasured natural attractions, the minister said the site possesses immense tourism potential because of its scenic beauty, cultural significance and unique rock carvings. Often referred to as the “Amazon of Tripura” or the “Amazon of Northeast India,” Chabimura has long attracted visitors for its picturesque landscape along the Gomati River and its rich heritage value.

The minister was accompanied by ADC Executive Officer C.K. Jamatia, MLA Ranjit Das, Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Tourism Director Prashanta Badal Negi, senior officials of the tourism department, district administration representatives and local leaders. A review meeting was also held at the project site to assess ongoing works and discuss future plans for enhancing visitor facilities.

During the meeting, officials deliberated on measures to improve infrastructure, strengthen tourism services, enhance connectivity and create a more visitor-friendly environment. Special emphasis was placed on developing modern amenities that would cater to the needs of both domestic and international tourists.

“The state government has undertaken a comprehensive initiative to transform Chabimura into a world-class tourist destination. With improved facilities, better connectivity and enhanced visitor services, we aim to attract a larger number of tourists from across India and abroad,” Chowdhury said.

The minister further noted that the project is expected to play a crucial role in promoting eco-tourism and generating employment opportunities for local residents. He expressed confidence that the revamped destination would help showcase Tripura’s natural beauty and cultural heritage on a larger platform.

Officials believe the upgraded Chabimura tourism project will significantly contribute to the growth of the state’s tourism industry and establish the site as one of Northeast India’s premier eco-tourism destinations.
