Agartala, October 7: Many students of B.Ed SC category protested in front of Janjati Kalyan Department demanding payment of stipend.

Their complaint is that the students belonging to the tribal section are being deprived of their right to stipend. Instead of stipend, students are getting dates only. This situation has been going on for the last five years under the double engine government. As a result, many SC category students who have done B.E.D. under the government initiative are in trouble. About 90% of the students have not received the stipend yet.

Many times the Gorkha population came to the Janjati Kalyan Department and spoke to the officials demanding stipend, but nothing was matched except the dates. Due to the financial crisis, the students staged a protest in front of the director’s room at the Janjati Kalyan Department again on Saturday. But today nothing but date is found. The government knows everything and is indifferent. They strongly demanded immediate payment of the outstanding stipend. Otherwise, they warned, they would force a larger movement.
