For the first time in its history, the residents of Srinagar and Anandanagar have come together to jointly organize a two-day celebration of Makar Sankranti Snan (Holy Dip) and Poush Mela at the Srinagar Dashmighat ground. The landmark cultural and religious event will be held on January 12 (Monday) and January 13 (Tuesday), marking a significant moment of unity and shared tradition for the local community.
Preparations for the event are already in full swing. On Wednesday, concerned administrative authorities visited the Dashmighat ground to inspect the venue and review ongoing arrangements. Officials assured organizers and residents that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure smooth conduct of the holy dip. Adequate facilities, crowd management measures, and safety arrangements are being put in place so that devotees can participate in the ritual without any inconvenience.
Beyond the religious significance of the holy dip, the Poush Mela promises to add a vibrant festive atmosphere to the occasion. Numerous stalls will be set up by small traders and local vendors, offering a wide range of goods, including handicrafts, household items, traditional food, and daily essentials. The fair is expected to attract large crowds from nearby areas, creating a lively blend of spiritual devotion and cultural celebration.
Local organizers expressed great enthusiasm about the joint initiative, highlighting that the collaboration between residents of Srinagar and Anandanagar symbolizes unity, harmony, and cultural pride. They believe this collective effort will not only strengthen community bonding but also provide meaningful economic opportunities for small businesses and traders.
If successful, the organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition, enriching the cultural landscape of the region and reinforcing the spirit of togetherness for years to come.
