Agartala, June 4: A blood donation camp organised at Ramakrishna Club in Ramnagar on Wednesday witnessed an inspiring moment when a specially-abled woman, Sanhita Das, came forward to donate blood, earning praise from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who described her gesture as a matter of pride for the entire state.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the blood donation camp and interacted with donors, volunteers, and organisers. During the event, he lauded Sanhita Das for her determination and commitment to saving lives through blood donation despite physical challenges. Her act drew admiration from those present and underscored the inclusive nature of Tripura’s growing blood donation movement.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation, stating that there is no substitute for blood and that donated blood plays a vital role in saving countless lives. He noted that blood donation not only benefits recipients but also contributes positively to the physical and mental well-being of donors.

“Today’s example reflects the spirit of humanity and social responsibility. The participation of a specially-abled woman in this noble cause is a source of inspiration and pride for all of us,” the Chief Minister said.

Highlighting Tripura’s achievements in the healthcare sector, Dr. Saha said the state has emerged as one of the leading states in voluntary blood donation. He informed that blood banks across the state currently maintain reserves exceeding the required 40,000 units, ensuring adequate availability during emergencies.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that modern healthcare facilities, including blood banks and blood component separation units, have been established in hospitals across the state, significantly strengthening Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure.

Praising the contribution of social organisations and clubs, Dr. Saha said community groups have played a key role in promoting blood donation awareness. He noted that women are increasingly taking leadership roles in such social initiatives, reflecting the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on women’s empowerment and nation-building.

Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, who was present at the event, remarked that blood donation has evolved into a social movement and festival in Tripura, helping eliminate shortages and save lives.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from donors, club members, and local residents, reinforcing the message that blood donation remains one of the highest forms of humanitarian service.
