New Delhi, Dec 10 — Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday delivered a forceful counterattack against the Congress in the Lok Sabha, asserting that the party’s consistent electoral setbacks were the result of its opposition to major policy decisions taken by the Modi government, particularly the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Listing out several decisions, Shah said, “You opposed Article 370 abrogation, the CAA, the abolition of triple talaq, surgical strikes, and above all, the Ram Mandir. That is why the people have repeatedly rejected you.” His remarks drew loud desk-thumping from NDA members.

He cautioned that the Congress’s continued resistance to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists and the One Nation One Election (ONOE) proposal would further erode its political base. “Keep opposing SIR, and you won’t just be reduced to irrelevance in Bihar—you will be wiped out in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu as well,” Shah warned.

Rejecting allegations that the BJP’s electoral success was due to manipulation, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s victories to efficient governance and targeted welfare delivery. “Modi ji provided free ration, gas cylinders, tap water, electricity, and created world-class infrastructure. The people are rewarding performance. Janata is Ishwar—yet you call this mandate ‘vote chori’?” he said, prompting strong objections from the opposition.

Calling the day’s debate a “golden opportunity,” Shah claimed the government had exposed what he described as “one-sided lies” propagated by the Congress regarding the Election Commission’s voter list purification exercise. “Every false narrative built around SIR has been demolished today,” he added.

The Home Minister’s strong rebuttal came amid heightened confrontation in the Winter Session, with the opposition alleging that SIR was being used to disenfranchise marginalised groups ahead of key state elections. Shah insisted the process was essential for ensuring electoral integrity and national security.

Following his address, the House was adjourned for the day.
