Agartala: August 20: Shah Jahan, also known as Bilash, a resident of Sonamura, Durgapore in Tripura, has been released from Comilla Central Jail in Bangladesh after 35 years. He returned to India today through the Bibir Bazar-Sonamura Srimantapur checkpoint in Comilla.
In late 1988, Shah Jahan was arrested by the Bangladesh police while visiting a relative’s house. He was subsequently charged with several offenses and sentenced to 11 years in prison. However, after serving his sentence, he was detained for an additional 35 years.
With the assistance of Mohammad Shahid Ali, Chairman of the Jara Foundation in Agartala, Shah Jahan was finally handed over to his family after completing the necessary legal procedures. Shah Jahan, now 62, has a son and a wife. His father was arrested before his son was born, and after a long wait of 37 years, the family has been reunited. Shah Jahan expressed his joy at returning to India, describing the experience as a rebirth.
