Agartala, Jan 4: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker and veteran legislator Biswa Bandhu Sen, stating that the state has lost a true public leader and a respected cultural personality.
Addressing a condolence meeting held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, the Chief Minister recalled Sen’s long and distinguished public life and his dignified role as Speaker. He said that Biswa Bandhu Sen was widely admired for his neutrality, discipline, and constructive conduct in the Assembly. “With his passing, the people of Tripura have lost a genuine public representative who upheld democratic values,” CM Saha remarked.
Biswa Bandhu Sen, a four-time MLA, passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 72, at a private hospital in Bengaluru after undergoing treatment for over four and a half months. Reflecting on the inevitability of death, the Chief Minister said that while death is the ultimate truth, only a few individuals leave behind a lasting legacy. “Many are forgotten after death, but Biswa Bandhu Sen will be remembered for his work, principles, and character,” he added.
CM Saha also shared personal memories, recalling their association since their student days at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in 1971, a period marked by political unrest. He said their friendship deepened during those challenging times. After joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2017, the Chief Minister frequently visited Dharmanagar, Sen’s constituency, and described him as one of the most dependable and supportive leaders there.
The Chief Minister recalled that August 8 was the last time he met Sen, shortly before he suffered a brain haemorrhage. Despite emergency treatment, surgery, and advanced medical care facilitated through a Green Corridor, Sen could not survive.
The condolence meeting was attended by several senior leaders, ministers, MLAs, and public representatives, who paid tribute to the late Speaker’s contributions to Tripura’s political and legislative life.
