Agartala, October 2: The Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala reached out to economically weaker sections in Kalyanpur by distributing new clothes among 175 people ahead of the Durga Puja festivities, organisers said on Friday.
The community outreach programme was held at Kalyanpur Bazar Natmandir, where beneficiaries were presented with sarees, dhotis and vests.
The initiative was organised with the objective of sharing the festive spirit with families who may find it difficult to meet additional expenses during the festival season.
Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, ATMA Committee Chairman Nitai Bal, Kalyanpur Merchant Association Secretary Asim Deb Roy, office-bearers of the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and other local representatives attended the programme.
The beneficiaries expressed happiness over receiving the clothes ahead of Durga Puja and thanked the organisers for the assistance.
The organisers said the programme was part of the Rotary Club’s community service activities and was intended to promote greater participation in the festive celebrations.
The guests attending the event appreciated the initiative and highlighted the role of voluntary organisations in supporting communities through welfare-oriented activities.
They said festivals provide an opportunity for people to come together, share happiness and extend support to sections of society that may need assistance.
The programme also brought together representatives from local organisations, the merchant community and Rotary Club volunteers, who participated in the distribution of the clothes.
The organisers said Durga Puja is traditionally associated with new clothes, family gatherings, religious observances and cultural activities. For families with limited financial resources, however, meeting festive expenses can be challenging.
The clothes distribution was therefore intended to provide direct assistance to beneficiaries and help them take part in the celebrations, they said.
The organisers said the initiative also sought to promote values of compassion, solidarity and social responsibility within the community.
They added that such activities can help strengthen community ties and encourage wider participation in local welfare initiatives.
The beneficiaries said the new clothes would bring additional happiness to their families during the festive season.
The Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala said it would continue to undertake community-oriented programmes and social service initiatives.
The club said such outreach programmes are aimed at extending support to people in need and promoting a sense of inclusion during important occasions.
The initiative comes ahead of Durga Puja, which is set to be observed across Tripura with religious ceremonies, cultural programmes and community celebrations.
