The protest was organised by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) following an incident involving a senior resident doctor at the Medicine OPD.

The association said the incident and the subsequent circulation of videos and allegations on social media had created concerns among doctors over their safety, privacy and professional protection.

The protesting doctors assembled outside the Principal’s office in the morning with placards and submitted a five-point memorandum to the college administration.

The first demand was for the removal of videos related to the incident that were circulating on social media. The doctors also demanded restrictions on unauthorised photography and videography inside the hospital. The RDA said media personnel, patients and attendants should not be permitted to record videos or take photographs in wards, OPDs and patient service areas without proper authorisation.

According to the association, such measures were necessary to protect the privacy of patients and ensure the safety of doctors and other healthcare workers.

The RDA further sought legal action against individuals whom it alleged had made false accusations against the doctor. It demanded that the Medical Superintendent file an FIR and ensure appropriate legal proceedings against those responsible.

Strengthening security at the hospital was another key demand. The resident doctors called for replacement of SIS security guards with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel and sought enhanced security deployment on the hospital premises.

The association said the protest should be viewed in the broader context of concerns faced by medical professionals regarding workplace safety and dignity.

It maintained that doctors need a secure and respectful environment to perform their duties and provide uninterrupted treatment to patients.

An agitating doctor told reporters that the protest would continue until the administration took concrete action on the demands.

The RDA urged the authorities to engage with the protesting doctors and resolve the
