Agartala: Nov 10: In recent months, several criminal incidents have dominated the news in North Tripura, raising concerns about law and order in the region. On Sunday, an alarming development occurred in Dharmanagar, with the recovery of a foreign-made pistol and ammunition, further intensifying these concerns. Acting on a tip-off, Additional Superintendent of Police Jeremiah Darlong and Dharmanagar police raided the residence of Raju Deb, a resident of College Road, Gaur Gopal Sarani area, and recovered an automatic pistol along with ten rounds of ammunition. The police also seized two mobile phones and a car during the raid.

Raju Deb was arrested, and the police initiated an investigation under the Arms Act. According to Darlong, the recovered weapon was a Russian-made 7.62 caliber automatic pistol. During preliminary questioning, Deb revealed that he had purchased the pistol from Dimapur, Nagaland. The police have registered a case and begun investigating the matter further.

The discovery of the weapon has created a sense of fear and panic in Dharmanagar. There are now speculations in the area regarding the reason behind Deb keeping a firearm at his home. While the exact motives remain unclear, it is suspected that Deb might have intended to use the weapon for illegal activities. Some believe that he could have been involved in previous criminal acts. However, the police have emphasized that further investigation will determine the full extent of the situation.

The incident has raised serious questions about the availability and illegal trafficking of firearms in the region, and the police are continuing to probe into the case to understand the broader implications and connections to other criminal activities.
