Agartala, Dec 14 — The Agartala Press Club hosted its annual awards ceremony on Sunday at the club premises, celebrating journalistic excellence in the presence of distinguished guests, founding members, and media professionals. The event began at 5 p.m., drawing participation from both senior and young journalists, symbolising the unity and evolving spirit of Tripura’s media fraternity.
Tripura Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy attended as the chief guest, while Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder graced the programme as the special guest. Also present were founder member Satyabrata Chakraborty, veteran editor Subal Kumar Dey, club vice-president Chitra Roy, and MBB University Registrar Sumanta Chakraborty. The ceremony was presided over by club president Pranab Sarkar.
During the event, the Amiya Deb Ray Memorial Award and the Hiranmay Chakraborty Memorial Awards for 2024 and 2025 were formally presented. The ceremony also included prize distribution for winners of the club’s sports competitions.
Founder member Satyabrata Chakraborty was honoured with the Hiranmay Chakraborty Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024 in recognition of his lasting contribution to journalism. For 2025, senior editor and founder member Subal Kumar Dey received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Among emerging journalists, Chandrima Sarkar and Mrinal Kanti Banik were awarded the Hiranmay Chakraborty Memorial Award for excellence in journalism. The Amiya Deb Ray Memorial Award went to senior sports journalist Sarju Chakraborty for his outstanding contributions to sports reporting.
Minister Tinku Roy, addressing the gathering, reflected on the changing landscape of media, emphasising the vast opportunities created by digital platforms. He highlighted the need for adaptability in an era where global readership is just a click away.
Veteran journalists also recalled the legacy of late Amiya Deb Ray and Hiranmay Chakraborty, guiding younger reporters with insights into the growth of Tripura’s media.
The programme began with a welcome address by Secretary Ramakanta Dey and concluded with a vote of thanks by President Pranab Sarkar.
