Agartala: Dec 15: The Pradesh Congress has announced plans to launch a statewide movement against the Narendra Modi-led government’s policies, which they accuse of prioritizing corporate interests over the welfare of the people. At a press conference on Sunday, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty condemned the government’s approach, stating that it has no focus on controlling inflation or addressing unemployment. Instead, he argued, the government’s sole objective is to protect corporate magnates like Adani. He criticized the Modi government’s authoritarian actions, stating that when such issues are raised in Parliament, the proceedings are disrupted, further concealing Modi’s autocratic tendencies.

Chakraborty claimed that the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has been supporting such activities by failing to take action against them, instead backing party politics. He also accused the BJP of fostering an environment that suppresses the opposition’s voice, particularly in the case of Adani. The Congress spokesperson also highlighted the widening wealth gap, with BJP leaders and workers amassing large fortunes since the government’s establishment.

Chakraborty expressed concern over the rising unemployment rate, wage cuts, and the record-breaking levels of joblessness in the country, with millions of youth suffering from a lack of opportunities. He also pointed out that the prices of essential goods have risen sharply in Tripura, causing immense hardship for the people of the state. Despite these challenges, the government claims that the people’s income has increased and that Tripura is outperforming other states in agriculture.

Additionally, Chakraborty accused the government of fueling communal tensions by instigating one community against another. He cited recent communal incidents between Gandachhara and Panisagar as examples. In protest, the Pradesh Congress has planned a Raj Bhavan march on December 18, demanding an end to fascism and communalism, the protection of peace and harmony, and the creation of employment opportunities.
