Agartala: May 26: Gomati district has witnessed growing tensions following an incident involving District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma and Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. The youth wing of Tipra Motha has called for the removal of the District Magistrate, citing inappropriate behavior towards their leader.
During a press conference attended by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, representatives of the youth organization expressed their concerns, demanding the District Magistrate either be removed or issue an apology, followed by a transfer. They warned that if these demands are not met within four days, they will take action, including locking all government offices in Gomati district and escalating their protest.
According to statements from Tipra Motha leaders, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the ADC had gone to meet the District Magistrate at his official residence for urgent discussions. However, they alleged that the District Magistrate refused to meet them, an act that has sparked widespread criticism across the state.
Opposition leaders have also weighed in, questioning the conduct of the District Magistrate and calling for accountability. The unfolding situation has led to increased political discourse in Tripura.
Authorities have yet to respond to the demands of the Tipra Motha youth organization. As the deadline approaches, all eyes remain on Gomati district to see how the administration and the state government will address the concerns raised.
