Agartala, May 27 — Kalamchowra police station officer (OC) Prashanta Dey has taken legal action against nine individuals for their alleged attempt to murder him. The accused are currently evading arrest.
On the night of May 25th, businessman Ramprasad Deb suffered serious injuries in a collision with a sugar-laden truck. Despite receiving treatment at GBNP Hospital for two days, Ramprasad Deb tragically succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
On Sunday afternoon, a group of miscreants brought Ramprasad Deb’s body to the main gate of Kalnachowra police station, blocking the road by setting tires on fire. They demanded the immediate arrest of the truck driver responsible for the collision.
However, OC Prashanta Dey had already taken action, apprehending the truck driver and impounding the vehicle on the 25th. The driver was subsequently produced in Sonamura Court on the 26th.
Despite the arrest, the miscreants exploited the pretext of a road blockade to enter the Kalamchowra police station. They forcibly entered the OC’s quarters and attempted to strike him on the head with a beer bottle. OC Prashanta Dey swiftly closed the door, preventing the bottle from causing further harm.
In addition to the attempted assault, the miscreants vandalized the OC’s room, causing damage to property. They also stole a gold chain and cash.
OC Prashanta Dey managed to save his life by seeking refuge in the bathroom. Responding promptly, other police personnel arrived at the scene, ensuring OC Prashanta Dey’s safety.
Following a complaint filed by the family of the deceased Ramprasad Deb, OC Prashant Kumar Dey took necessary steps. Acting on instructions from the Sepajla District Police Administration, he filed a case against eight of the accused for attempted murder at Kalna Chowra police station on Monday.
