In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Tripura, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has approved the construction of a 50-bedded Critical Care Block at Dhalai District Hospital under the Pradhan Mantri–Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). The project, estimated at Rs 23.75 crore, is expected to bring advanced medical services closer to residents in the district, particularly benefiting tribal communities.

The new facility will be equipped to handle trauma cases, cardiac emergencies, and other critical illnesses, ensuring that patients receive prompt, high-quality care without being referred to Agartala. This initiative is part of a broader effort to decentralize critical healthcare services, strengthen district-level hospitals, and improve access to lifesaving medical treatment in Tripura’s remote and tribal regions.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha welcomed the announcement, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J P Nadda for their visionary leadership. “This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to underserved communities,” he said, emphasizing that the Critical Care Block will bridge the gap in medical access and enhance emergency response capabilities in the district.

Local residents and healthcare professionals have lauded the move, calling it a milestone in improving healthcare delivery in Dhalai. They highlighted that the project will not only save lives during emergencies but also strengthen the overall medical infrastructure in the district.

The 50-bedded Critical Care Block is expected to create employment opportunities for healthcare personnel and support staff, while also fostering confidence among residents that advanced medical care is accessible locally. Officials noted that the facility aligns with the government’s vision under PM-ABHIM to enhance critical care services across India, particularly in underserved regions, ensuring equitable and timely healthcare for all citizens.

Once completed, the project is anticipated to set a benchmark for modern healthcare in Tripura, reinforcing the state’s commitment to inclusive and high-quality medical services.
