Agartala, January 24: Stealing electricity is not only a crime in the eyes of the law, stealing electricity can endanger lives. In the past, there have been cases of death due to hook lines in various places in this state. However, the trend of electricity theft on the hook line does not stop.

Crime is being organized legally, while electricity theft is going on with a challenge to one’s life. However, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation has been conducting raids and fines to stop electricity theft besides making the general public aware about it. In addition to making the public aware, it is moving forward with an aim to stop electricity theft in the future by imposing some fines.

From April to December of last year (2023), the vigilance team of Tripura State Electricity Corporation cut 2624 hook lines in a total of 497 operations. After testing 2508 meters, irregularities were detected in 445 meters. Vigilance team along with Tripura State Vidyut Nigam officials and all levels of employees have levied a total fine of Rs. Out of this Rs 1 crore 14 lakh 71 thousand 944 has been recovered.

 

After breaking 2624 hook lines in 497 raids and detecting irregularities in 445 meters, the vigilance team of Vidyut Nigam has collected fines from the law breakers to ensure that they do not commit this crime again in the future.

This campaign has been completed in every power sub-division of the state. This operation will be intensified in the coming days because due to this electricity theft, the common consumers who are regularly paying the electricity bills, also have to suffer unexpected electrical shocks.
