Tripura MLA Paul Dangshu represented India at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Legislative Summit 2026 in Chicago, Illinois, joining legislators, policymakers and experts from different countries to exchange ideas on governance, policymaking and public administration.
Speaking after his return, Dangshu described his participation in the international summit as a valuable opportunity to interact with lawmakers from diverse political and cultural backgrounds and gain insights into different approaches to governance.
“It was a great experience to once again be part of a global platform where legislators from different states, countries and political backgrounds come together to learn, exchange ideas and understand different approaches to governance,” Dangshu said.
The summit brought together lawmakers, policymakers and other stakeholders and provided a platform for discussions on governance challenges, public policy and administrative practices.
Dangshu said exposure tours and study visits organised as part of the programme added significantly to the experience. These included sessions at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, where participants gained insights into policymaking, foreign affairs and different approaches to governance.
He said direct interactions with legislators, academics and representatives from various countries provided an opportunity to understand innovative administrative practices and explore how relevant ideas could be adapted to improve public service delivery in India.
Dangshu described the interactions as an important learning experience that broadened his understanding of governance and policymaking. He said exposure to different models and practices could help elected representatives strengthen their contribution to policy formulation and administration in their respective regions.
The Tripura legislator also expressed gratitude to the NCSL and NLC India for facilitating India’s participation in the summit. He stressed that international platforms offer lawmakers opportunities not only to exchange experiences but also to identify new ideas that could be applied to governance at home.
“This will enable us to play a more effective role in policymaking and public service in the future,” Dangshu said.
The NCSL Legislative Summit serves as a forum for legislators and policy professionals to discuss common challenges, exchange solutions and learn about emerging practices in governance.
Dangshu’s participation provided Tripura representation at the international forum while offering an opportunity to bring global policy perspectives and governance experiences back to the state.
