Agartala: Oct 18: State opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury has criticized the BJP-IPFT-Tipra Motha coalition government following the death of a businessman and an alleged case of police brutality. Chowdhury’s comments came after visiting the family of Badal Tripura, who reportedly died after being tortured in police custody.
According to Chowdhury, on October 13th, police officers from Manubazar police station arrested Badal Tripura on suspicion of stealing rubber materials. He was allegedly beaten throughout the night and released the next day. Badal’s family took him to a local hospital, and he was later referred to Shantir Bazar District Hospital and then to GB Hospital, where he died on October 16th.
Chowdhury questioned the handling of the case and criticized the police for not providing adequate medical care. He also raised concerns about corruption within the police force and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. Chowdhury emphasized the need for justice for Badal Tripura’s family and urged the government to take responsibility for the education of Badal’s three daughters and provide them with job opportunities.
The opposition leader’s remarks highlight ongoing concerns about police conduct and accountability in the state.
