According to the details of the incident, a group of smugglers were allegedly smuggling cows to Bangladesh in Durgapur area of Ward No. 2 of Durgapur village on Sunday late night. The jawans of BSF No. 133 battalion witnessed the incident and tried to stop the traffickers. The traffickers did not care. It is also alleged that when the BSF on duty chased them, the smugglers dared to retaliate against the BSF. It is further alleged that once the BSF opened fire, the rest of the smugglers managed to escape, but a cow smuggler named Alamgir Hossain died on the spot. When local people took Alamgir to Sonamura Social Health Centre, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Meanwhile, family members claim that Alamgir is not involved in trafficking. When BSF chased the smugglers, the smugglers went to Alamgir’s house near the border and tried to hide. It was then that innocent Alamgir was shot dead by the BSF.
