Agartala: June 5: In a major development, the Bishalgarh Police have successfully taken action against Jewel Ahmed, the key accused in the recent hijacking of a vehicle belonging to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station. On Friday, after the completion of his police remand, Jewel Ahmed was produced before the court, which ordered 14 days of judicial custody.
Jewel Ahmed, described by police as a notorious anti-social element, was earlier remanded to police custody for two days after being initially presented in court following his arrest. The arrest took place on Wednesday evening from his in-laws’ house in the Madhupur police station area, following an intensive manhunt.
According to police sources, three other individuals involved in the hijacking remain absconding, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them. Bishalgarh OC Sanjit Sen expressed confidence that further interrogation of Jewel would lead to the identification and arrest of the remaining accused.
Notably, while attempting to arrest Jewel at his residence earlier, police recovered a large quantity of illegal firecrackers, adding another layer to the charges against him. The case, registered under case number 42/2025, has drawn attention due to the high-profile nature of the victim—the OC of the women’s police station—and the brazenness of the crime.
Jewel Ahmed’s arrest has been hailed as a breakthrough in tackling organized anti-social activity in the region. OC Sanjit Sen confirmed that the accused would face multiple charges and emphasized that law enforcement is committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
The case continues to unfold, with police actively pursuing leads to nab the absconding suspects and strengthen the legal proceedings against those involved in this alarming incident.
