Agartala: Nov 05: Dharmanagar in North Tripura district has become a hangout for drug addicts. Drug traffickers continue their drug trafficking trade using North District as a corridor. The drug dealers and drug users of the state are trying to build a paradise of drugs in the state by using the northern district.

State Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s strict directives and the Home Department’s activities are hampered somewhat. But their main corridor is the northern district. It is through this northern district that various types of narcotic harmful substances including Phencidil, Escoff, Corox, Brown Sugar, Heroin, Yaba Tablets are entering the state and are being smuggled to the neighboring country Bangladesh at the right time. Cars are leaving Gaza side by side.

There is no alternative route for entry or exit of narcotics from Tripura state other than northern district. The only way in or out of Mizoram is through Churaibari or Damchara in the northern district.

Although the North District Police often catch narcotics and drug dealers, there is no sign of any drastic reduction in the number of dealers. There are total eight police stations in North District. Churaibari, Kadamtala, Dharmanagar, Bagbasa, Panisagar, Damchara, Kanchanpur and Bhanmun.

According to experts, despite the strong directives of the Chief Minister of the state and the activities of North District Police Superintendent Bhanupad Chakraborty, the police stations in the district are active in anti-drug operations, but actually only three police stations are playing or trying to play the right role.

After Samaresh Das joined as the OC of Churaibari police station, the drug dealers started to heave a sigh of relief. In Dharmanagar, along with security department personnel, common conscious people are handing over drug dealers, which has greatly benefited the administration.

Similarly, after Raju Bhowmik took charge at Damchhara police station, some difficulties have arisen for the drug dealers. But there are huge question marks over the effectiveness of other police stations. Though there are Bag Basa Police Station and Panisagar Police Station on the National Highway, the Chorai Bari has become a huge obstacle for drug dealers. But among the three police stations, Bagbasa and Panisagar are on the national highway, but questions have arisen among the common people about their passive role.

So many drugs are entering the state but the thieves are not caught if they are not caught at home. Drug dealers are running from one end of the state to the other end of the state and drug paraphernalia is easily reaching the hands of drug users. The dream of the state is being destroyed by the youth and future generations. According to experts, only a small part of the amount of drugs entering and leaving the state is caught and the rest is run by illegal traders. While the police’s activity in catching drug dealers has been noticed, there have been allegations that the police’s activity is very weak in the case of drug users. Moreover, even though cases have been accepted against the drug dealers under the NDPS section, the fear of the drug dealers has completely disappeared due to the weakness of the police report in terms of legal system.

Drug dealers are therefore continuing their violence by pointing the thumb at the administration. People are the most affected indirectly by drug addiction. In particular, price spreads have long been an accepted form of addiction to commodity consumption and trade. A proper search of every drug store will not find a discount drug store that does not stock narcotics. One after another drugstores are being established to distribute donations based on narcotics alone and the drugstore owners are acquiring wealth disproportionate to their income. Common people believe that if the police administration and the drug department jointly raid the shops in this area, a lot of illegal drugs will come out. Drugs are crippling, especially the people of Dhamchara. Meanwhile, allegations of communal views of the OC have surfaced against the Kanchanpur police station. Bhang Mun police station is like no other. People are still not sure about the duties and responsibilities of police in this police station. The refugee camps in the northern district have taken a horrible shape. On the one hand, there is rampant drug trade and violence among drug users. Along with this, the infection of terrible diseases like HIV has come to the fore.

With the help of Aids Control Board and State Health Department, many awareness camps are organized day after day and this area is not freed from the deadly epidemic of AIDS. This area has been identified as an HIV epidemic area within the state. Efforts have been made to make them aware by spending crores of rupees, but all the efforts are considered futile. The people of the capital Agartala are educated in higher education and are aware of the good and bad aspects, but the people of the remote areas can be said to be still the same as the whale.

The attitude of the Nengti-wearing people in the hills, especially in the remote areas, remains the same. There has been no improvement in their eyesight as well as their socio-economic status. Getting drunk after waking up and raising a family without a family plan is still their daily story. The rate of HIV infection due to unplanned sexual intercourse is increasing day by day. It can be said that these refugee camps are becoming HIV free zones.

Despite this news and efforts in various departments, the state government departments are unable to handle it. Among them, illiteracy and the brainwashing of some of the Christian missionaries has made it impossible to bring them back to normal life. No one can protect them from epidemics like HIV and drugs until they become aware. However, if the administration takes a tough stance against drugs and punishes drug users and dealers properly, it will still be possible to save the small, quiet, green state.
