Agartala, September 22: A five-day teacher training initiative began in Tripura on Tuesday with a focus on enhancing teaching methods, professional capabilities and classroom learning under the Centre’s NISHTHA programme.
The training is being held at the indoor hall of Hapania International Fair Ground and is being organised by NECERT in association with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
NCERT Director Prof Dinesh Prasad Saklani inaugurated the programme in the presence of School Education Department Secretary Dr Milind Ramteke. The initiative has been organised under the National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA).
Speaking to the participants, Saklani said teachers would have a crucial role in translating the objectives of the National Education Policy into practice. He said the policy had brought a new perspective to the country’s education system.
Saklani observed that children, especially in remote areas, often learn through their surroundings and interaction with nature. He stressed that educational approaches should encourage students to retain and develop their natural curiosity and creativity.
He also called for greater use of feedback from learners and participants in the formulation and review of educational programmes. Inputs received during the training, he said, could contribute to improving the initiative.
Ramteke said the programme would focus on primary and school education and expressed hope that it would help teachers further develop their professional skills. He also referred to Tripura’s literacy rate, saying the state ranks third in the country.
SCERT Director L Darlong welcomed the participants, while Prof Ranjana Arora, Head of the Department of Curriculum Studies and Development, NCERT, spoke on the NISHTHA framework and its objectives.
Prof Sarad Sinha, Head of the Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, attended the inaugural session as the guest of honour.
The opening programme also included the screening of a short documentary on the NISHTHA initiative.
