Agartala: August 19: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Monday that the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting will be held in Tripura for the first time. Although the final date is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to take place on August 31st or September 1st. The meeting will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the DoNER Minister, Chief Ministers of six North Eastern states, and Governors.
Dr. Saha expressed his joy over the central government’s decision to hold the NEC meeting in Tripura, highlighting that previously, the Chief Minister and Governor had to travel to other states for such meetings. This year, the central government has chosen Tripura as the venue.
The meeting will cover a range of topics, including the state’s NESAC activities, border area situations, and various development issues, particularly those affecting farmers. Chief Ministers and Governors will discuss development issues pertinent to their states, and there will be a focus on ongoing and future developments in Tripura.
A review meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss logistical arrangements for the attendees. The NEC, established by an Act of Parliament in 1971, is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the North Eastern region, comprising eight states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
