NCC Police Bust Inter-District Bike Theft Racket, Three Arrested and Stolen Royal Enfield Recovered

Agartala, June 21: In a major breakthrough against organized vehicle theft, the NCC police have successfully busted an inter-district bike theft racket, arresting three individuals and recovering a stolen Royal Enfield motorcycle.

The operation was launched following the recent theft of a motorcycle belonging to Ripon Saha, which was stolen from near the Abhoynagar Boys’ Hostel earlier this month. Acting swiftly, the police analyzed CCTV footage from surrounding areas, which led to the arrest of Sankar Sarkar from the Badarpur region. The stolen Royal Enfield was subsequently recovered by Badarpur police.

During the investigation, Sarkar’s interrogation led to the identification and arrest of two more individuals—Uttam Das and Shyamal Nandi, both residents of Madhupur. According to police reports, Sarkar had handed over the stolen motorcycle to Das and Nandi for further trafficking.

All three accused confessed to their involvement in a larger network operating across districts. In their statements, they revealed that their modus operandi involved identifying unattended motorcycles in various localities, stealing them, and smuggling the stolen vehicles across the border into Bangladesh.

In a further boost to the investigation, police also recovered another motorcycle that was used by the trio during the execution of the thefts. Authorities believe this may help track additional cases linked to the gang.

Speaking to the media, SDPO Subrata Barman praised the efforts of the investigating team and said, “This is a significant success in our ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region. The arrests and recoveries have disrupted a well-organized bike theft racket.”

Further investigation is underway, and police are working to identify additional members involved in the network.
