Agartala, June 24:
In a commendable humanitarian gesture, West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb helped secure ₹3 lakh in financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for a critically ill patient in urgent need of a kidney transplant.
The patient, Mousumi Saha (43), a resident of Mahashakti Sangha in Jogendranagar, Agartala, has been diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease. She requires a life-saving renal transplant, estimated to cost ₹11.3 lakh at the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.
After being approached by the patient’s family, MP Deb personally intervened by writing to the Prime Minister, advocating for urgent financial support. Following his appeal, the Prime Minister’s Office approved a grant of ₹3 lakh under the PMNRF to partially cover the treatment cost.
Sharing the news via social media, Deb expressed his solidarity with the family and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that no individual is denied critical healthcare due to financial constraints. He thanked the Prime Minister for the prompt response and support extended to the patient.
According to the official sanction letter, the hospital has been instructed to take full responsibility for proceeding with the transplant and to provide a detailed account of expenses post-surgery. The assistance amount, as per guidelines, will be released based on actual costs incurred—limited to either 50% of the total expense or ₹3 lakh, whichever is lower.
The family has expressed deep gratitude to MP Deb and the PMNRF for their timely support during this critical juncture.
This intervention highlights the importance of parliamentary outreach and welfare mechanisms like PMNRF in addressing life-threatening health emergencies for economically disadvantaged citizens.
