Agartala: The newly resettled Bru migrants in Tripura are, reportedly, not receiving their monthly pension of Rs 5,000 for each family as per the mandate of the quadripartite agreement signed in January 2020. The Bru leaders, Tripura, Mizoram and Central governments are the parties in the agreement under which it was decided that Bru families would get permanent settlement in Tripura ending a 23 years log wait.
The process of resettlement is also underway and most of the families are now residents of Tripura. All of a sudden the payments were stopped.
According to Karanjoy Reang, the assistant in-charge of the Bruhapara settlement area, the payments had been stopped for the last one year. He wrote a letter addressing District Magistrate Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal to describe the predicament they have been subjected to in absence of the monthly assistance.
A total of 6,959 families were supposed to get resettled in Tripura out of which only 651 families are left in the relief camps. Sources said, within a very short period of time, all the families will be relocated to their new huts.
