Melaghar, Oct 29: A horrifying incident has sent shockwaves through Vaidyertilla area under Melaghar Police Station after a 13-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his own father on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Shimul Das, reportedly killed his son Anupam Das, a student of Class VII, in a fit of rage while under the influence of alcohol. According to local sources, the father, known for his habitual drinking and violent behaviour, had frequent quarrels with family members.
On the fateful day, neighbours heard heated arguments from the Das household. Moments later, the area fell silent. Later, villagers discovered the boy’s body dumped inside a rubber plantation near Kemtali Vaidyamura, triggering widespread outrage in the locality.
Preliminary investigation suggests that after committing the gruesome act, Shimul Das fled the scene, leaving the body of his son behind. The motive appears to be a result of domestic dispute and intoxication, though police have not ruled out other angles.
Upon receiving information, Melaghar police rushed to the spot and recovered the boy’s body. A forensic team was also called in to collect evidence from the scene. The body has been sent to Sonamura District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have launched an extensive manhunt to trace the absconding father, and checkpoints have been set up across nearby routes. Locals have demanded strict punishment for the accused and immediate justice for the child.
“This is a heartbreaking case of domestic violence gone to the extreme. We are leaving no stone unturned to arrest the accused,” said a senior police official.
The brutal murder has left the quiet neighbourhood of Melaghar’s Vaidyertilla in deep grief and anger, highlighting once again the dark toll of alcohol abuse and family discord.
