Agartala, September 25: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday paid tribute to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary and highlighted the continuing relevance of his ideas of Integral Humanism and ‘Antyodaya’ in promoting the welfare of all sections of society.
Saha was addressing a programme organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala to commemorate Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the concept of ‘Antyodaya’ focused on taking development and welfare benefits to people at the last mile. He said the philosophy remained relevant to efforts aimed at achieving broader and more inclusive development.
The programme began with dignitaries offering floral tributes to Upadhyaya’s portrait.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, local corporators and other dignitaries were present at the function.
Recollecting Upadhyaya’s life and contributions, Saha referred to his ideas on Indian society and culture and his emphasis on improving the lives of people. He described him as an influential thinker and philosopher who contributed to the country’s social and political discourse.
Saha said ensuring the welfare of people from disadvantaged sections should remain an important part of development efforts. He added that Upadhyaya’s philosophy could continue to provide inspiration for initiatives aimed at public welfare.
Other speakers recalled different aspects of Upadhyaya’s life, including his simple lifestyle, patriotism and organisational abilities. They also highlighted his views on the upliftment of disadvantaged communities.
Party workers, supporters and members of the public attended the programme, which featured floral tributes and commemorative proceedings honouring Upadhyaya and recalling his contribution to public life and social thought.
