Man sent sentenced to life imprisonment

Agartala: Oct 03: A special court of the Khowai District Court has sentenced Salfa Jamatia to life imprisonment for the gang-rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl. The incident occurred on May 9, 2016, when the girl from Hadrai Bari area went to visit a friend’s house in the Darjeeling Tila area and did not return home. Her body was found the next day in the Darjeeling Tila area.

Following the discovery, the girl’s family filed a case with the police, leading to the arrest of Birbal Jamatia, Binay Jamatia, Salfa Jamatia, and Karina Jamatia. After a thorough investigation, the police submitted a chargesheet to the court. During the trial, which included the testimonies of 47 witnesses, the court sentenced Salfa Jamatia to life imprisonment. Birbal Jamatia and Binay Jamatia passed away during the trial, and Karina Jamatia was acquitted.
