According to the Officer-in-Charge of Baikhora Police Station, Bishnu Chandra Das, the incident came to light after a complaint was lodged at the police station at around 10:30 PM on Friday. The complaint alleged that a minor girl from the Jolaibari area had been sexually assaulted. Acting promptly, the police initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter and found the allegations to be prima facie credible.

Following the initial verification, a police team conducted a swift raid and arrested the accused within a short period. The arrested individual has been identified as Bikash Nama (36), a resident of West Jolaibari. Police sources informed that the accused is married and has one child. It has also been reported that he is employed at the Jolaibari Community Health Centre.

Officer-in-Charge Das stated that a formal case has been registered as Case No. 1 under Sections 65(1) and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He further added that the case is being investigated with due seriousness and sensitivity, given the involvement of a minor.

The minor victim has been sent for medical examination as part of the legal and investigative procedure. Police sources also revealed that the victim is reportedly around two months pregnant, a detail that has added gravity to the case.

Currently, the accused remains in police custody and is being interrogated to gather further evidence and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. The police have assured that all legal protocols are being followed to ensure a fair and thorough investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the accused will be produced before the Belonia District and Sessions Court on Saturday for further legal proceedings. The police have reiterated their commitment to delivering justice while safeguarding the rights and dignity of the minor victim.
