Agartala: May 02: A delegation from the Left Front met with the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) on Friday, alleging deteriorating governance and increasing lawlessness in the state. Following their deputation at police headquarters, the leaders of the Left Front held a press conference at the CPI(M) state office to highlight key concerns.

Manik De, the convenor of the Left Front, pointed out delays in wage payments to REGA workers across various blocks. He stated that, despite completing their work, many laborers had not received their earnings on time. Left Front-affiliated organizations have staged multiple protests, urging the government to ensure timely payments and consider wage increases. Demonstrations, including block office gheraos, have been organized, yet several blocks continue to face issues with pending wages. He further alleged that funds were being directed towards leaders rather than genuine workers.

Addressing the issue of employment, De claimed that despite the government’s advertisements for vacancies, job applicants were undergoing interviews but remained unemployed. He referenced reports presented in the state assembly, which identified 50,000 vacant positions, yet delays in recruitment have led to cancellations.

The press conference also touched upon concerns regarding essential services, such as drinking water and electricity, which have led to frequent public demonstrations, including road blockades. Rising instances of daylight thefts and other crimes in Agartala were cited as a growing challenge. Additionally, cases of violence against women were reportedly increasing, with concerns over the lack of arrests in such incidents.

De criticized the condition of newly constructed national highways, noting poor infrastructure and large potholes that hinder vehicular movement. He alleged that corruption within state operations was exacerbating governance issues.

The delegation urged authorities to take corrective measures, addressing the concerns raised in their meeting with the ADGP.
