Agartala,July 08: In a groundbreaking achievement, the Agartala Government Medical College and GB Hospital successfully performed the state’s first-ever kidney transplant. The procedure, carried out by a dedicated team of doctors and healthcare professionals, marks a significant milestone in the advancement of government healthcare services. The medical team under the supervision of experts from Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Manipur performed the kidney transplant. The operation took about 5.30 hours. Both the donor and the recipient were taken to the operation theatre at 8 am in the morning and the doctors started operation at 8.30 am. It ended at 2.30 pm.
Both the kidney donor and recipient are reported to be in good health following the surgery. This momentous event underscores the commitment of the state government, the honorable Chief Minister, and all involved departments to enhance medical care for the people of our state.
According to the Medical Superintendent, the Kidney Transplant was done at free of cost. He said, the patient is stable post operation.
The medical team included 32 healthcare staff including doctors, nurses amd OT assistants. The operation team included Dr.Bijit Lodh, Urologist, Dr.Manas Gope, Nephrologist, Dr.Samaresh Paul, Nephrologist, Dr. Mukut Debnath, Urologist and Dr Bhaskar Majumdar, Anupam Chakrabarty and Dr Tapan Debbarma as anaesthetists.
