Agartala, May:  In celebration of the 126th birth anniversary of the legendary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the Kazi Nazrul Academy and Research Foundation, Agartala is set to organize a four-day cultural festival titled “Nazrul Milan Mela and Cultural Festival” from May 23 to May 26, 2025. The event will be held at Renter’s Society, located near Jogendranagar Railway Station in Agartala, Tripura.
This grand celebration aims to pay homage to the life, work, and enduring influence of Kazi Nazrul Islam — a towering figure in South Asian literature, music, and social thought. The festival will act as a confluence of renowned poets, artists, scholars, and cultural personalities from West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, showcasing the richness of regional and multilingual traditions while reinforcing Nazrul’s message of unity through art.
A key highlight of the event will be a series of creative and cultural programs, including:
• Drawing Competitions
• Workshops on Singing, Recitation, and Dance
• Performances inspired by Nazrul’s works
Additionally, a special segment titled the Multilingual Poets’ Conference will be held on May 24, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This session will feature recitations of Nazrul’s iconic poems as well as original literary pieces inspired by his legacy, fostering cross-cultural literary exchange and reverence for the Rebel Poet.
In advance of the festival, a press conference was convened today at the Agartala Press Club, where Shri Dipak Majumder, President of the Academy, elaborated on the significance, structure, and scope of the event. He was joined by other esteemed members of the organization, including Advocate Sandeep Dutta Choudhury, Vice President, and Smt. Chitra Roy, among other executive dignitaries. On 24th May Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury will inaugurates the programme, on 25th May Minister Ramprasad Paul will attend the programme and 25th May Chief Minister Dr. (Prof) Manik Saha will attend the programme.
Addressing the press, the Academy leadership extended a collective appeal:
