Agartala: Oct 07: Under the initiative of Kanya Katha, a women-led social organisation, a campaign has once again been launched this year to collect and relocate abandoned Lakshmi idols from various corners of the city to safe and designated locations.

Like the previous year, the organisation’s members have been working tirelessly across different neighbourhoods to ensure that idols left on roadsides, ponds, and public spaces after the Lakshmi Puja are respectfully handled and moved to proper sites. The campaign aims to prevent environmental pollution, promote cultural responsibility, and spread awareness among citizens about the need for eco-friendly idol immersion and disposal practices.

A spokesperson of Kanya Katha stated that last year’s drive received immense support and appreciation from the community, making it a remarkable success. Encouraged by that achievement, the group decided to continue the initiative this year with even greater enthusiasm and coordination.

“We are hopeful that this year’s efforts will also be successful,” the spokesperson said. “But more importantly, we dream of the day when such campaigns will no longer be necessary — when every citizen will act responsibly and ensure that idols are properly immersed or relocated without causing harm to the environment.”

Through this campaign, Kanya Katha continues to lead by example in promoting environmental awareness, social responsibility, and cultural sensitivity. The organisation has urged all citizens to join hands in preserving the sanctity of religious traditions while maintaining cleanliness and ecological balance in the city.
