Agartala: August 14: Ending a long wait for the people of Belonia, the Kanchanjunga Express made its much-anticipated halt at Belonia Railway Station today at 6:45 am while en route from Sabroom to Sealdah. The momentous occasion was marked by an overwhelming sense of joy and excitement among residents, who gathered at the station from the early hours to witness the historic event.
The inaugural stop was celebrated with a ceremonial flag-off. Waving the green flag to signal the train’s onward journey from Belonia were Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, MLA Swapna Majumder, MLA Dipankar Sen, MLA Ashok Mitra, and Belonia Municipal Council Chairperson Nikhil Chandra Gop. They were joined by Railway Area Manager Birendra Meena and several other dignitaries.
The station premises buzzed with festive energy as local residents, passengers, and railway staff came together to commemorate the occasion. Many expressed that this long-awaited halt will significantly improve connectivity, benefiting students, traders, and daily commuters who previously had to rely on other stations for boarding the train.
Speakers at the event highlighted that the inclusion of Belonia in the Kanchanjunga Express route marks a milestone in the region’s transportation development. They credited the efforts of the local administration, public representatives, and the Indian Railways for making this dream a reality.
