Agartala April 4: A tailor died of a heart attack due to the silent terror of the ruling party in Jirania after the election results. The name of the deceased tailor is Apu Acharya (62). After the news was published in Sandan newspaper on Tuesday, CPIM party leader, state secretary of CPIM Jitendra Chaudhary wrote a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. In the letter, he said, Apu was earning his living in a tailor shop owned by him at Jirania Market in Acharya. This was his only source of income.

BJP did not like joining of Apu with the Tailoring Workers Union after the results of the assembly elections were announced on March 2. His tailor shop was locked by some local BJP workers led by Gautam Paul and Narayan Pal. Since then, Apu Acharjee and his family members were forced to take refuge in a relative’s house after being evicted from their home. He requested several BJP leaders to let him stay in his house and open his shop. But no one responded positively. Gautam Pal and his accomplices brutally beat up Apu Acharjee when he went to his house at Chittaranjan Palli in Jirania in the third week of March.

On March 29, Apu Acharjee along with his family members went to Jirania market. BJP workers requested that his entire family be allowed to live by allowing him to open his shop. But even there he was abused in obscene language. Apu Acharjee, already worried and weakened by the uncertainty of regaining his only source of income, fell ill on the evening of March 29. He was referred to IGM Hospital from Jirania PHC. But he died there. It was a calculated, brutal murder, beating and starvation, opined Jitendra Chowdhury. A new system has been introduced in the state to force opposition supporters to bow down to the ruling party by cutting off all means of livelihood. Jitendra Chowdhury claimed that such incidents of political revenge are happening in the state at the direct instigation of some BJP leaders. He demanded the Chief Minister to immediately arrest the BJP-backed miscreants involved in locking up Apu’s shops and punish them severely. Apart from this, Apu’s family is also financially supported.
