Agartala: Oct 20: CPI(M) state secretary and Leader of the Opposition, Jiten Chowdhury, held a press conference at the party’s district office in Dharmanagar on Sunday, following recent sporadic incidents in the Kadamtala and Panisagar areas of North Tripura district.

During the press conference, Chowdhury held the local administration accountable for the incidents and questioned the role of the district police superintendent. He mentioned that he had arrived in Dharmanagar on Saturday night, having informed the police administration in advance, and stayed at the Dharmanagar circuit house. However, when he attempted to visit the affected areas on Sunday morning, the police administration informed him that Section 163 had been imposed, preventing him from visiting those locations. Chowdhury alleged that despite the allowance for five people to visit during the imposition of Section 163, he was not permitted to go. He also called on the government to provide financial assistance to shopkeepers who suffered losses and to the families of those who lost their lives in the incidents.
