The Governor first visited Murtiprangan at the Circuit House, where he offered flowers at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, paying homage to his supreme sacrifice for the nation. He later proceeded to Gandhibedi at Gandhi Ghat, where he again laid floral tributes, observing the occasion with deep reverence and respect.

Martyrs’ Day, observed annually on January 30, holds immense national significance as it marks the day Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in 1948. The day is dedicated not only to remembering Gandhi’s life and ideals but also to honoring all those who laid down their lives for the country’s freedom and unity.

During the tribute ceremony, a solemn atmosphere prevailed as officials, staff and attendees stood in silence, reflecting on Gandhiji’s timeless values of truth, non-violence, peace and communal harmony. The Governor bowed before the statue, reaffirming the importance of following Gandhi’s principles in contemporary society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring relevance in today’s world, stating that his teachings continue to guide the nation in addressing social, political and moral challenges. He emphasized that Gandhiji’s message of non-violence and tolerance remains vital in fostering unity and harmony in a diverse country like India.

Officials from the state administration, along with security personnel, were present during the programme. The tribute formed part of a series of observances held across the state to mark Martyrs’ Day, with institutions and organisations remembering the sacrifices made by the nation’s leaders and freedom fighters.

The ceremony concluded with a call to uphold Gandhian values in daily life and to work collectively for peace, justice and national integrity, keeping alive the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi for future generations.
