Dubai, Oct 3: The Indian Constitution is more than a legal charter; it is a social contract, moral compass, and roadmap to an inclusive future, according to a report published in the Khaleej Times on Friday.

The report underscored that India’s strength lies not in suppressing differences, but in embracing them with dignity and justice for every citizen. By guaranteeing equality, protecting minorities, uplifting disadvantaged groups, and ensuring representation, the Constitution has ensured that opportunity is viewed as a right, not a privilege.

Former media advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Rishi Suri, writing for the Gulf daily, observed:

“The Indian Constitution does more than set up a framework of government. It embodies a moral commitment that every citizen, regardless of religion, community, language, or social background, will have an equal share in the country’s progress.”

Suri noted that the framers of the Constitution recognised education as the most powerful tool for empowerment. Successive governments, he said, have built upon this vision by ensuring free and compulsory education for children from minority, disadvantaged, and economically weaker backgrounds.

The report further highlighted that laws and constitutional provisions guarantee equal opportunity in employment, compelling public institutions to treat candidates fairly while encouraging private initiatives to foster inclusivity.

The impact, it said, is evident today: leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs from once-marginalised communities are shaping India’s future across politics, business, sports, and science.

While acknowledging that India’s Constitution is not flawless and that social and economic inequalities persist, the report stressed that the very ability to debate and address such issues within a constitutional framework reflects the resilience of Indian democracy.

It concluded that India’s constitutional framework offers valuable lessons for the world, proving that diversity, when safeguarded by law, can be transformed into a source of harmony and strength.
