Tripura: Sept 03: Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu today inaugurated the South District Level Workshop-cum-Awareness Programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at the Sachin Dev Varman Auditorium in Belonia. The event was jointly organized by the District Education Office, South Tripura, in collaboration with the District Administration, with the aim of spreading awareness on the importance of girl child education and empowerment.
In his inaugural address, Governor Nallu emphasized that empowering girls through education is one of the most powerful tools for ensuring gender equality and sustainable development. He highlighted that initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao are not merely government programmes, but people’s movements that require collective responsibility from parents, teachers, community leaders, and the society at large.
The Governor further stressed that a society can only progress when women are given equal opportunities to learn, grow, and lead. Citing examples of women excelling in diverse fields such as science, politics, sports, and administration, he urged parents to break away from traditional biases and ensure that daughters receive the same care, attention, and education as sons.
The workshop brought together educators, government officials, social activists, students, and members of self-help groups from across South Tripura. Sessions during the programme focused on spreading awareness about women’s health, education, safety, and career opportunities, while also addressing the challenges of early marriage, gender discrimination, and female dropout rates in schools.
Officials from the District Education Office highlighted the efforts being undertaken to increase girl child enrolment in schools, reduce gender disparity in education, and create safe learning environments. The programme also included cultural performances, skits, and interactive sessions by students aimed at promoting messages of gender equality and women empowerment.
The event concluded with a pledge from participants to carry forward the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to every household in the district, ensuring that every girl child gets the right to live with dignity, learn with freedom, and lead with confidence.
