Agartala, July 17: Tripura on Friday formally launched the self-enumeration process for the Census of India 2027, marking the beginning of the country’s first fully digital Census in the state. Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the exercise at Lok Bhavan by becoming the first citizen of Tripura to complete the self-enumeration through the dedicated online Census portal.

Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas said the self-enumeration phase will continue till July 31, allowing citizens to submit their details online from the comfort of their homes. The second stage of the first phase, comprising House Listing and House Enumeration, will be conducted from August 1 to August 30, during which enumerators and supervisors, most of them government schoolteachers, will visit every household to collect information on families, residential buildings and housing conditions.

The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027, when officials will gather detailed demographic and socio-economic information on every individual. Training of thousands of census personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, has already been completed ahead of the nationwide exercise.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Reddy Nallu stressed that Census data forms the backbone of government planning and development. He said the information collected is vital for establishing schools and hospitals, planning infrastructure, allocating government resources and undertaking constituency delimitation.

Appealing to citizens to participate actively, the Governor assured that all personal information would remain strictly confidential and would be used solely for planning and developmental purposes. He urged people to provide accurate information, warning that incorrect data could adversely affect welfare schemes, resource allocation and development planning.

Highlighting the technological advancement of Census 2027, the Governor said citizens can, for the first time, complete self-enumeration through a dedicated online portal, making the process faster and more convenient. He also noted that every household and workplace, including labour settlements, brick kilns and temporary habitations, would be covered to ensure no individual is left out.

The Governor called upon government officials, local bodies, schoolteachers, Anganwadi workers and village committees to support the exercise. He also encouraged college students and other tech-savvy youth to help elderly family members and neighbours complete the online process.

Director Ratan Biswas said the self-enumeration process takes about 10 minutes and urged residents to complete it before the July 31 deadline. He added that an extensive public awareness campaign is underway across the state to ensure maximum participation in the landmark digital Census exercise.
