Agartala: Nov 27: Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the government’s commitment to making farmers financially self-sufficient through flower and orchid cultivation. Speaking at a one-day orchid training and sapling distribution program held at Prajna Bhavan, Nath highlighted that the initiative aims to provide farmers with the knowledge and resources to succeed in this profitable agricultural sector. The event was a joint collaboration between the Horticulture Department and the Research Center.

Minister Nath informed the attendees that a significant number of farmers had participated in the event, underscoring the growing interest in orchid cultivation in the state. He encouraged the farmers to take advantage of the opportunities this sector presents and to actively engage in the cultivation of orchids, which is considered a lucrative crop with potential for both local and international markets.

The government is taking proactive steps to expand orchid cultivation in Tripura, with special training programs being organized to teach farmers the best practices and techniques for growing orchids. These programs are designed to ensure that farmers are equipped with the necessary skills to tap into the potential of this high-value crop.

As part of the initiative, 300 farmers attended the event, and each participant was provided with 40 orchid saplings along with other materials to help them begin their cultivation. Nath expressed hope that this initiative would not only increase the income of farmers but also contribute to the state’s agricultural diversity and economic growth.

The government’s focus on flower and orchid cultivation is part of a broader effort to diversify the agricultural sector and promote sustainable, high-return farming practices that can significantly improve the livelihoods of the state’s farmers.
