As per the order, all individuals possessing licensed arms in the district must deposit their weapons at their nearest police stations on or before March 30, 2026. The directive has been issued under the provisions of the Arms Act, 1959, with the objective of preventing any untoward incidents before, during, and after the polling period.

The District Magistrate clarified that the order applies to all categories of licensed firearms and ammunition held by civilians across the district. Authorities have emphasized that strict compliance is mandatory, and any violation will invite legal consequences.

However, certain exemptions have been provided. Licensed firearms used by authorized security personnel deployed in banks within the district will not fall under the purview of this directive, allowing essential security arrangements to continue uninterrupted.

Officials have warned that individuals found in possession of firearms or ammunition beyond the stipulated deadline will face legal action. In such cases, the weapons will be seized in accordance with the provisions of the law.

The move is part of a broader strategy to maintain law and order during the election period, which is often marked by heightened political activity and tension. Authorities stated that such precautionary measures are essential to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful electoral environment.

The administration has urged all license holders to cooperate with the directive in the interest of public safety and smooth conduct of the elections.
