Agartala: Mar 22: During a press conference at the state BJP office, former MP Rebati Tripura emphasized the importance of peaceful protests while addressing the ongoing Tipra Motha movement advocating for the use of Roman script for the Kokborok language. He expressed concern over reports of vehicles associated with essential services being blocked during the protests, calling such actions deeply regrettable and inappropriate. He appealed to the Tiprasa community to withdraw the protest, highlighting the need to ensure that ordinary citizens are not adversely affected.

Rebati Tripura noted that Tipra Motha, an ally of the ruling party, has long supported the adoption of Roman script for Kokborok. He referenced Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha’s recent statement in the assembly, where the government committed to discussing measures regarding the script’s use. Despite this assurance, questions remain about the continuation of the protests.

State BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty also addressed the media, presenting details of the state’s budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year. The budget, amounting to ₹32,423.44 crore, reflects a nearly 20% increase compared to the previous year. Chakraborty highlighted the government’s focus on the welfare of marginalized communities, noting significant allocations for health and capital expenditure. He also announced the ‘Chief Minister’s Daughter Marriage Scheme,’ aimed at supporting Antyodaya families, and a 3% increase in dearness allowance for government employees and teachers.

The spokesperson commended Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singh Roy for presenting what he described as a humane and historic budget.
