Agartala: Former Minister and veteran Congress leader Suneel Chandra Das passed away at his own residence today due to old age ailments. He was 78. Das during his tenure as a minister reportedly worked hard for his constituency Fatikroy and Kumarghat sub-division as a whole. Recalling his contributions, Pabiacherra BJP MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das said, “He was like a mentor and guide. I used to consult him whenever I faced any hard times. He is always regarded as a fatherly figure in the entire subdivision. We might have political differences, but he had always encouraged me with good thoughts”. According to Das, the Ambedkar College located at Fatikroy was established because of his relentless efforts. “When he was the Minister, he had brought several important things for the people of Kumarghat. Ambedkar college in Fatikroy is one of them”, he added. The MLA had also expressed his condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also condoled the death of the former Minister. In his condolence message, Dr Saha said, “The state has lost a pro-people leader on his sudden demise”. Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee leaders and CPIM party activists also gathered at his residence and paid last respect to the leader. His mortal remains were cremated with full state honor. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath also extended his since condolences and sympathy to the departed soul. In a social media post, Nath said, “I pray to the God almighty for the departed soul”.
